This half term I am trying to encourage the children to read on a more regular basis at home in order to develop further some of their higher order reading skills some of which include: reading between the lines, identifying the main themes of the text, giving an overview of a character, reasons for their actions etc. Towards the end of last term it became apparent that some of the children where not reading from one week to the next which resulted in them not being able to discuss what they had read in depth. Within your child's reading booklets there is a book mark with the skill we are focusing on. After reading with your child please could you discuss what they have read based around the skill and make a comment in their reading record book. The children have also be encouraged to make any comments they feel are relevant also.
